A long walk for The Curve’s Chris Slater

Posted on May 18, 2012

The Curve Group was delighted to support its Talent Executive Chris Slater when he recently undertook an 18 mile charity walk in aid of Brain Tumour UK.

Chris explains: “Back in December 2011 a very good friend of mine, Richard, was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a grade 4 malignant tumor in the left ventricle.

He began treatment of radiotherapy in February, which he has now completed and is awaiting results. His diagnosis and treatment obviously hit family and friends very hard, and we wanted to look at ways to raise money to honour Richard’s courage and help others who are going through a similar situation.”

Richard requested that any charity events should raise money for Brain Tumour UK. Chris and three friends decided on a charity walk from Chris’s home village to Buckingham, a total of 18 miles, which they completed two hours ahead of schedule.

“Completing the walk with all our family and friends to support us at the finish line was fantastic! It was an amazing day – I was touched to see the generosity of people through tough times, who so kindly donated their time and money to a deserving cause,” says Chris. “I was also given genuinely massive support by The Curve Group – the Directors kindly donated pedometers for the day, I believe we did 25,000 steps! Everyone was very happy to hear I completed the walk, and they also took part in “Wear a Hat Day” for Brain Tumour UK on the 14th May.”

Having raised over £1000 (and still counting) for the walk, Chris and his friends are now planning to hold a similar fund-raising activity each year. The Curve Group is very proud of Chris’ achievement and wish him luck with the next one!
