Expert Insight to The Director Magazine

One of the most regarded business titles in the UK is The Director, which is distributed to over 50,000 business leaders including members of the Institute of Directors. In the December/January edition, which is hitting people’s desks right now, is a 60 second expert guide to Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) written by The Curve Group’s Lyndsey Simpson. The guide explains what it is, who it is suitable for and common misconceptions. This is the first time that the magazine has covered the subject and Lyndsey will be providing more insight to the magazine in the future.

As The Director is a print-only publication, please find below the 60-second guide:

What is it?

RPO stands for Recruitment Process Outsourcing. It is where a company outsources all or part of the recruitment process to an external provider, usually as part of a 3 year+ contract.

Why outsource recruitment?

Simple – it is faster, smarter and cheaper. Typically, an RPO will reduce recruitment expenditure by 20-25% in the first 12 months and this increases as economies of scale kick in and process enhancements deliver efficiencies. In addition, a good RPO provider will always take a holistic approach to Talent Management, taking on responsibility for attraction, development and retention and not just the front end of hiring people in to the business.

What is the most common misconception?

That it is the preserve of FTSE 250 companies only.

Who is it suitable for?

Typically any company who hires more than 50 people per annum would benefit. It is particularly suitable for fast growth businesses or contract-led businesses who need the operational agility to quickly increase headcount to serve major contract wins then drop back to business as usual levels just as quickly.

Do you have to outsource all recruitment?

No. You can outsource one division or all roles above or below a certain level. You can also run a project RPO if a one-off piece of volume recruitment is required.
